Surgeon’s Assistant Program 1970s – 1980s: NC Memorial Hospital

A 1963 graduate of UNC School of Medicine and a J.P. Riddle Professor of Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. W. Paul Biggers (1937-2000) directed the Surgeon’s Assistant program in the 1970s and 1980s.

A 1981 graduate of UNC’s Surgeon’s Assistant Program, and a certified physician assistant, Bob Hollingsworth has been a physician assistant in Red Springs, North Carolina since 1996. Students in UNC’s Physician Assistant Program will do rotations in Red Springs.
Hollingsworth was a Special Forces medic at Fort Bragg before entering the Surgeon’s Assistant Program. After graduation, he practiced in Fayetteville, North Carolina until moving to Red Springs.
